07.07.2006 Spain: Iberia Airlines to cancel 200 flights a day during strike
Spain's flagship airline, Iberia Lineas Aereas de Espana SA, announced it will
cancel up to 200 flights daily during a pilots' strike.
AFX news agency reports that the Spanish Union of Airline Pilots will strike
10-16 July.
Iberia announced that most international flights and half of the airline's
European flights will be cancelled. All flights to the Canary and Balearic islands
will operate as usual.
Iberia spokespeople advised passengers to claim a refund or change their flight
at an airline office or with their travel agent. Passengers can claim refunds
or change flight times until 31 July and change flights until 31 December.
SEPLA is protesting Iberia's plans to launch a low-cost airline, Catair, in
October. Pilots fear the new airline will lead to job losses and worsen working
conditions.
